Analysis of Serum Cytokine Levels in Larynx Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Dysplasia Patients
Authors
Abstract:
Background: Although the imbalance of cytokines in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is well known, there is scarce data regarding its occurrence during dysplasia, before the malignant transformation. Objective: To determine whether laryngeal dysplasia patients show a different cytokine profile than patients with cancer and healthy controls. Methods: Seventeen newly diagnosed, untreated larynx squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and six laryngeal dysplasia patients as well as 22 healthy controls were analyzed for circulating cytokines. A flowcytometry Th1/Th2 cytokine array kit was used to quantitatively measure Interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) and Interferon-γ (IFN-γ) levels. Additionally, IL-8 levels were determined through ELISA. Results: IL-6, IL-8 and IL-10 were determined to be statistically increased in SCC patients (p

full textSerum Endostatin Levels in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Introduction: Endostatin is a C-terminal proteolytic fragment of collagen XVIII and, as with angiostatin and thrombospondin, is known as an antiangiogenic agent. The aim of this study was to assess the level of serum endostatin in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and its association with the clinicopathological characteristics of the tumor. Materials and Methods: Using an ...
full textSurvival Rate of Patients with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Larynx Undergoing Nonsurgical Treatments and Radiotherapy, From 2003 to 2015
Background:The incidence rate of head and neck cancer in the world is about 560,000 new cases a year. Larynx cancer is the most common malignancy in head and neck in Iran. The most common head and neck carcinoma is the malignancy of squamous epithelial cells. This study was conducted to determine the survival rate of patients undergoing nonsurgical treatment methods for larynge...
full textSerum Level of Interleukin-6 in Patients with Oral Tongue Squamous cell Carcinoma
Introduction: The clinical outcome of patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) located in the head and neck has remained poor despite ongoing advances in diagnosis and management. Interleukin-6(IL-6) is a multi-functional cytokine that plays an important role in the process of cell differentiation and is increased in several malignancies. The aim of this study was to investigate the serum le...
full textExpression analysis of CD44 isoforms S and V3, in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Objective(s): CD44 is a member of the cell adhesion molecules family. Naturally, CD44S, along with CD44V3 influence the cell motility, migration, and adhesion, while in tumor cells they lead to tumor invasion, progression, and metastasis. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the CD44S and CD44V3 expression in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (ESCC) and to reveal their correlations wit...
